So, I needed a new passport - mine's good until November 2012, but I need it to last until November 2013 - just my luck right? Well, I go to get a new passport and my mom warns me that it's going to take a long time and I'm going to have to do all of this verification of identity stuff. So, I'm prepared to spend hours in line, then more hours answering questions - and when I get there I'm the only one there...
Now, in my mind I would think less people in line = more time to spend questioning me, because there's no traffic to be held up. But, apparently not. I hand the guy my old passport (which looks nothing like me, considering I was 14 when it was taken). He gives me a paper, asks me, "Do you promise this is you?" I said yes, then signed the paper. That was that. He didn't even ask for my drivers license.
I'm just like really? All the stuff you have to go through for things so much smaller than that, and here's a federal identification document that you'll be carrying for the next year in a foreign county, and all I had to do was promise that I am who I am. That's the government for ya, I will never understand...
